Long Term Loss of Medical License Insurance

If an illness or injury takes you out of the cockpit, do you have the resources to cover your expenses?

What is Long Term Disability (LTD)?

Pilot Loss of License Long Term Disability is designed to start replacing your income after you have been grounded for as little as 6 months of disability and will pay for up to 48 months. Our Lump Sum Plan is also available for a benefit of up to $250,000.

For most pilots, a mix of both types of benefit will be the best option, using the lump sum coverage to pay off large debts such as mortgages or loans, and then use the monthly benefits to provide temporary disability grounding coverage. This insurance is designed so that it can be the only coverage you have or supplement other coverage offered by an employer airline.

Regardless of the plan purchased, all policyholders receive unlimited FAA Medical Certification Services to assist in all levels of FAA Medical issues from a small medication question to having us present the pilot’s case to the FAA Cardiac Review Board for recertification. Our experience shows 1 in 20 pilots are on disability every year whereas traditional disability insurance sees utilization rates of 3 in 1000 covered persons on LTD each year. These are confidential and voluntary services overseen by our Medical Director, Dr. Fred Tilton, the former US Federal Air Surgeon.
